Elevating North Shields
Elevation is a community arts charity established by residents of North Shields to commemorate the town's 800th anniversary in 2025. Our mission is to create a series of high-quality public murals that capture the history and spirit of North Shields while enhancing the local feel-good factor.
Our first project was 'The Siren' which was expertly created by the renowned street Artist Prefab77. We are hugely grateful to the artist for his passion and enthusiasm to see the streetscape of North Shields transformed. His large-scale black and white artwork has received a fantastic reception. It is true to say that without his support we would not be where we are today.
North Shields - 800 Years Young
In 2025, to mark North Shields' 800th birthday, Elevation will collaborate with a diverse array of mural artists to bring the town’s unique stories and spirit to life through several large-scale murals. These artworks will be displayed on prominent buildings around the Town Centre and Fish Quay, adding a dynamic visual element to our town’s landscape.
Exciting Contributions to a Year of Events and Art
As part of the year-long 'North Shields 800' celebrations, Elevation is excited to be part of a broad range of events and projects. These include:
- A spectacular Parade of Sail
- A blessing of the fishing fleet
- A lively parade along the Fish Quay
- Exhibitions and events showcasing local talent
- An trail of street art murals
- Heritage projects that delve into the town's rich history
- Creative collaborations that engage the community
- And rumour has it, a commemorative beer too!
NS800 activities will also bring performing arts to the streets, host events at local venues, and create memorable experiences for years to come.
